
Robinson Fourth in Texas Relays Discus

Krystal Robinson placed fourth in a strong discus competition and Sarah Yoder raced to an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 3000-meter steeplechase Friday to highlight Rice performances on the third day of the 79th Texas Relays.
Robinson, who was fourth in the NCAA championships last year, had a best of 51.99 meters/170-7 to take fourth in an event won by national collegiate-leader Becky Breisch of Nebraska.
Yoder clocked 10:43.78 to finish third in the steeplechase, qualifying for the NCAA Midwest regional meet here in May.
In other action, Flo Nwagwu cleared 1.70/5-7 to take eighth in the B section of the high jump, and Desarie Walwyn ran 11.95 in the 100-meters but did not advance to Saturday's final. Lacee Carmon had a season-best time of 14.87 in the 100-meter hurdles, but also failed to advance to the final.
Field events start at noon Saturday with the women's pole vault, featuring Rice's USA Junior champion Rachel Greff, and running finals start at 12:15.
