Wells, Robinson Winners at LSU Meet

Krystal Robinson won the discus and Callie Wells took the 1500-meters to lead Rice's women at the LSU Alumni Gold meet Saturday at Bernie Moore Stadium. Robinson, the fourth-placer at the 2005 NCAA championships, won her event by 20-feet with a toss of 52.58 meters/172-6. Teammate Ulrika Hinson was sixth at 43.33/142-2.
Wells, a double-winner at the Conference USA indoor championships, clocked 4:30.18 to win by more than four seconds.
Pole vaulter Rachel Greff cleared 3.90/12-9.5 to place fourth overall, and was the second collegian. Former Owl Beth Spearman was second at 4.20/13-9.25. Triple jumpers Shardee Caesar and Jenny Glover placed sixth and eighth, respectively, as Caesar recorded a season-best 11.86/38-11.
In other track action, sophomore Desarie Walwyn was fifth in the 100 at 11.91, and Lennie Waite was seventh in the 800 with a lifetime-best 2:12.11. Lacee Carmon had a personal-best in the 100 hurdles at 14.70, while Malin Fuglesang was seventh in the 5000 at 19:19.63.
The Owls host the Rice Twilight meet Saturday at the Rice Track and Soccer Stadium.
