
Owls Go 2-3-4 in 5000 at Bayou Classic

Sarah Yoder led a 2-3-4 finish in the 5000-meters, and Lennie Waite ran a personal best to finish second in the 1500 to highlight Rice performances on the first day of the 24th Annual Victor Lopez Bayou Classic Friday at the Rice Track and Soccer Stadium.
Yoder clocked 16:57.42 to take the silver, with Callie Wells third at 16:57.54 and Marissa Daniels fourth at 17:02.63. Kate Gorry was sixth at 17:05.64.
"It was a very humid evening," said Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "But I think the team handled it well and got in some good racing. I was very impressed with Lennie's performance and it bodes well for future races."
Waite finished second in the 1500 at 4:39.38, and teammates Claire Shorall and Lauren Murphy placed eighth and ninth, respectively.
In field event action, Ulrika Hinson was sixth in the javelin with a toss of 37.31 meters/122-5.
Running event finals start at noon Saturday, and field events kick off with the shot put at 9 am.
