
Owls Place Ninth at Louisiana Classics

Lafayette, La. - The Rice Owls golf team shot 290 in the third and final round of the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club (par 72; 7,002 yards) to place ninth with an 868 total (287-291-290). The Owls' Parker LaBarge, a senior, and sophomore Addison Awe tied for 22nd to lead Rice with 217 scores. LaBarge was consistent shooting 72-72-73, while Awe improved each round with 76-72-69.
"We performed well this week and had three solid rounds. We bested our team-low score by nine strokes and we had our lowest round of the year with a 287 during Monday's first round," said Rice head coach Drew Scott.
Rice's previous tournament low this year was 877 at The Battle on the Bend (Nov. 7-9, 2005). Also, sophomore Jeff Krakowiak and Daniel Lee each posted season-low scores for a round. Krakowiak fired a 68 in round one, while Lee shot a 70 in round two.
Houston won the 15-team event with an 846 (281-287-287; -18). Baylor's Jeremy Alcorn Baylor won the individual title by going nine-under with a 207 (69-67-71).
