McCray Named Safeties Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Houston - Randall McCray has been named safeties coach and recruiting coordinator on the staff of new Rice head football coach Todd Graham.
"Randall is another bright, young coach who will be a big asset to our program," said Graham. "In a relatively short period of time, he has become one of the more respected defensive coaches and recruiters in the country."
The addition of McCray completes Graham's 2006 Rice coaching staff. McCray, 36, has been the defensive line coach at the University of Toledo, helping the Rockets to a 45-13 victory over UTEP in the GMAC Bowl. He previously coached the Rockets' linebackers in three seasons with the Mid-American Conference school.
Prior to his years at Toledo, McCray was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Illinois State University in 2002 after serving as the coordinator and inside linebackers coach during the 1999-2001 seasons.
McCray has also coached at Murray State University (inside linebackers, 1997-98), Bethune-Cookman University (defensive ends, 1996), Clemson University (quality control, 1995), the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga (defensive line, 1993-94), and the University of South Carolina (graduate assistant, 1991-92).
He was a two-year letterman at Appalachian State University, playing outside linebacker and running back. He was a member of the Mountaineers' 1987 Southern Conference chanpionship team and two teams which advanced to the Division 1-AA playoffs.
McCray earned his bachelor's degree in communications at Appalachian State in 1991, and he later earned a master's degree in higher education from South Carolina. He is a native of Parkwood, N.C., and he and his wife, Michelle, have one son (Matt, 3).
