EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- Jason Williams had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists to lead UTEP to a 58-47 victory against Rice on Saturday night.
John Tofi, a starter relegated to bench duty while he nurses a foot injury, had 10 points and 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes for the Miners (17-6, 9-1 Conference USA).
The balanced UTEP attack offset Jamaal Moore's 23 points for Rice (11-13, 5-6). Moore was 8-of-10 from the field and 6-of-7 on free throws and had a team-high six rebounds. The rest of the Owls were just 10-of-32 from the field.
Will Kimble, Kevin Henderson and Stefon Jackson had seven points apiece for UTEP, and Edgar Moreno had six points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
