Jarett Dillard's record setting night against UAB has earned the sophomore from San Antonio Offensive Player of the Week honors from Conference USA. He is the second Owl to be honored in the last three weeks, joining quarterback Chase Clement, who recognized for his performance against Army.
Dillard caught nine passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns against the Blazers, the last coming with just 3.5 seconds left to give the Owls a 34-33 victory. His three scoring catches gave him 11 on the season to set a Rice season mark and it also extended his streak for consecutive games with a touchdown pass to nine, the longest active streak in the nation.
He now has 16 career touchdowns in 18 career games and needs just three more scoring grabs to break the Rice career mark of 18 set by David Houser from 1974-78. He has 53 receptions this year, which ranks sixth on the Owls season chart and he is on pace to catch 83 this year, which would better Eric Henley's 1989 record of 81. In the three games since Chase Clement has returned to the lineup, Dillard has caught 26 passes (8.7 per game) with 343 yards (114.3 per game) and seven TDs.
Dillard leads the conference and is third in the nation with 7.57 catches per game, while he leads the conference with 11 touchdowns and 9.4 points per game. He is second in C-USA and sixth in the country with an average of 97.6 yards per game receiving.
