Vaught Named Asst. AD/Football Operations

Mike Vaught will be the new assistant athletic director/football operations at Rice, Owls head coach Todd Graham has announced.
Vaught, 45, comes to Rice after three years as the athletic director of the Alamo Heights ISD in San Antonio. He previously was the AD at the Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tenn., for three years, and he has extensive experience as a college assistant coach.
"You can't overestimate the experience and enthusiasm that Mike Vaught will bring to our program," said Graham. "His background as a an administrator and coach will result in immediate benefits to Rice football."
Prior to his stints in athletic administration, Vaught was a successful assistant coach at Navy (1995-2001), Texas State (1992-94), and Missouri State (1986-93), after two years as a graduate assistant at Arkansas (1984-85). He was offensive coordinator at Navy and Texas State, and was the recruiting coordinator at all three schools at which he held full-time positions.
A native of Mena, Ark., Vaught earned his B.S. degree in health and physical education at Arkansas Tech University.
