Houston - Houston's record temperatures sent Rice inside for Wednesday's practice.
With a heat index of well over 100 degrees, the Owls had a 90-minute workout in the Texans' practice bubble.
"It was peak heat outside, and we got so much more done in here," said head coach Ken Hatfield. "It was a real plus and we appreciate the Texans for letting us use the bubble."
It was only Rice's second practice since returning to town following Hurricane Rita, but Hatfield said the Owls were right on schedule in their preparations for UAB this weekend in Birmingham, Ala.
"We had an excellent practice today, which we needed" he added. "Almost all the guys who have a chance to play, practiced today."
Included on that list were running back Thomas Lott and wide receiver Gary Anderson, whose minor injuries limited their practice time following the Texas game.
