After a successful debut last year, the Rice Athletics Department's second annual Meet the Owls Day is set for Friday, Sept. 2, at Rice Stadium from 4-8 pm.
At Meet The Owls Day fans will meet the players and coaches of the Rice football and soccer teams, get autographs, and win free prizes. Radio station ESPN790, the Owls' home for football and men's basketball, will broadcast live from the event and give away additional door prizes. Fans will also be able to get free ice cream at the event courtesy of Stucchi's.
The event begins with a 4 pm football practice that is open to the public. Fans will have a chance to meet and greet the teams beginning at approximately 6:25 pm. All are encouraged to bring their own cameras. Team posters of both the soccer and football teams will be available as fans arrive courtesy of Memorial Hermann.
Also, as part of the relief efforts to help those victimized by Hurricane Katrina, Rice University Athletics is asking all fans coming to the Meet the Owls event to bring new and gently used shoes in all sizes and for males, females, adults, and children. Rice will be collecting the shoes on the ramps to Gates 1 & 4 at Rice Stadium beginning at 6 pm prior to the Meet The Owls event on the West side concourse of Rice Stadium. Monetary donations in the forms of checks made out to the American Red Cross and cash will also be collected at the site for the relief efforts.
