Houston - Rice will cap its preseason practice Saturday night with a dress-rehearsal scrimmage at Rice Stadium.
Coach Ken Hatfield will send the first offensive and defensive units against the rest of the squad for a timed 15-minute period. The session will be played under game-like conditions with officials, scoreboard and play clocks, and will even include kickoffs and punts. Starting Monday, the Owls will begin their regular game-week practice schedule.
Hatfield termed Friday's workout, part of the annual Meet the Owls promotion, a good practice. "We did a lot of things we needed to do to get ready for UCLA," he said. "We service each other with a good, hard practice."
The Owls open the 2005 season next Saturday (Sept. 10) against the Bruins in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
