Rice University's historic Autry Court recently underwent a cosmetic renovation as a new design now graces the playing surface. Since the Owls are now a member of Conference USA it was necessary to give the three-year old surface a new look with the appropriate C-USA logos.
The court was designed by Jay Jameson, while Doc Jones Flooring of San Marcos, Texas, refinished and painted it.
The Rice Gymnasium was built in 1950 and has served as home of the Owls ever since. The arena is designated "Autry Court" in memory of Mrs. James L. Autry. Her daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Kelley, made a generous donation to the gymnasium building fund in honor of her late mother, an ardent supporter of Rice.
Fans can see the design in person this weekend as the Rice volleyball squad hosts McNeese State, Duke and Sacramento State in the Crowne Plaza Rice Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
