Houston - Rice sent its best against its best during a 60-minute scrimmage session Wednesday afternoon.
"We went one-against-one and two-against-two today," said coach Ken Hatfield of the workout. "That's the only way you learn to play the game, playing at the top speed."
The work included time spent on the kicking game and in a short two-minute drill. "I think we got better every way," he added.
Hatfield singled out quarterback Chase Clement (San Antonio/Alamo Heights) and receiver Jarett Dillard (San Antonio/Sam Houston) for their work. The two redshirt freshmen connected on some of the bigger plays of the scrimmage, and Clement also threw a touchdown pass to senior Nick Aranda (North Zulch/Huntsville).
"They looked like they've worked together and it shows," he added. "They made some tremendous plays."
