SACRAMENTO, Calif. ? May Rice graduate Yvonne Umeh and freshman Rachel Greff competed for the Owls in the second day of the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.

Umeh, a Dobie High School alumna, posted a 23.85 in the first round of the 200 meters on Thursday to finish 22nd overall. Greff, a 2004 graduate of St. Agnes, cleared 13-1.5 (4.00m) to tie for 18th in the preliminaries. Neither Owl advanced to the finals.

Late Wednesday, freshman Marissa Daniels from Pearland High School, posted a 16:46.96 in the 5,000 meters, just under six seconds off her career best. She finished 23rd in the prelims.

Friday will wrap up the Owls stay in Sacramento, Calif., as junior Krystal Robinson hits the field for the finals of the discus at 2 pm CDT. The Corpus Christi native posted the fifth best throw in the prelims on Wednesday with a toss of 173-1 (52.77m).

The NCAA championships continue through Saturday.
