SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Rice junior Krystal Robinson took fourth in the discus on Friday, earning all-America honors at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Robinson, a graduate of Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, recorded a throw of 178-01 (54.27m), just 13 inches off her own Rice record set when she won the discus at the Western Athletics Conference championships last month. With her finish, she becomes the first Owl to earn all-America in the discus while it's also the first honor in the throws for Rice since Valerie Tulloch won the javelin in 1995.
Beth Mallory of Alabama won the event with a heave of 194-9 (59.35m), the best discus throw by a collegian this year.
