
Owls Host Wake Forest Thursday

Fresh off an 80-65 win over Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles Monday night, the Rice Owls return home to host Wake Forest Thursday at 7 pm at Autry Court in the final women's basketball home game of 2005.
Led by Krystal Frazier's season-high 22 points, the Owls broke a two-game losing streak with the win at Loyola Marymount and improved to 4-4 on the year. Wake Forest enters Thursday's game with a 5-3 record. It will be the first-ever meeting of the two teams.
Junior forward Lauren Neaves, the Conference USA preseason player of the year, leads the Owls in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.6 points and 10.6 boards a game. She is tied for 16th nationally in rebounding, and is also averaging two blocked shots a game. Frazier upped her scoring average to 11.8 a game with her Monday outburst, while Kadie Riverin leads the club in assists with three a game.
Wake Forest has three guards averaging in double figures scoring, led by Cotelia Bond-Young's 18.9 ppg. Liz Strunk has averaged 15.7 ppg, and Deirdre Naughton scores 12.1 points and grabs a team-best 6.4 rebounds an outing.
After playing at Marquette on Dec. 30, and at Texas A&M on Jan. 2, the Owls open Conference USA play at home against Southern Mississippi on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 pm.
