HOUSTON - Rice hosts the 2005 Conference USA Volleyball Championship starting Thursday and running through Sunday at Autry Court, with the sixth-seeded Owls opening against 11th-seeded Tulane on Nov. 17 at 6 pm.
The C-USA championship includes all 12 league teams, with Marshall (23-5, 15-1), Houston (16-11, 10-4), Tulsa (23-7, 10-5) and UTEP (20-9, 10-6) receiving first-round byes as the top four seeds. Opening round action begins Thursday at 1 pm with eighth-seeded Memphis (16-15, 7-7) taking on ninth-seeded UCF (8-17, 6-10).
Rice, 17-9 overall, finished the C-USA regular season tied with SMU for sixth place with an 8-7 mark. The Owls earned the six seed after beating the Mustangs in both meetings this season. The Green Wave finished with a 3-15 overall record and 2-13 league mark. Rice swept Tulane in both meetings this year, winning 30-21, 30-26, 30-25 on Sept. 30 in College Station and 30-21, 30-28, 30-24 on Oct. 30 at Autry Court. Thursday's winner will face the third-seeded Golden Hurricane on Friday at 6 pm.
All-session passes are available for $30 for adults and $20 youths (ages 3 to 17). Tickets for individual sessions are $7 each for adults and $5 for youths. Tickets can be purchased in advance online here or by calling the Rice Ticket Office at (713) 522-OWLS. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate, cash only on the day of matches. All seating is general admission.
Students of a C-USA institution will be able to attend the matches free with a student I.D. These tickets will only be available at the gate. All seating is general admission. Group packages are also available at a discounted price. Groups of at least 20 people can purchase tickets at $3.00 each. To order group tickets, please call the Rice Ticket Office at (713) 522-OWLS. All group tickets must be purchased in advance and all seating is general admission.
