HOUSTON - For the fourth-straight year, Rice had multiple student-athletes named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District University Division Women's Volleyball Team as Selected by CoSIDA as seniors Kristina Hoban and Olaya Pazo and junior Tessa Kuykendall were honored this week by the organization.
Hoban was named to the academic all-district VI second team after garnering third team honors a year ago. She is majoring in economics. On the court, Hoban has recorded five triple doubles for the Owls this season and ranks in the top 10 in Conference USA in both assists (11.75 apg) and hitting percentage (.320).
Pazo and Kuykendall were both named to the third team for the first time in their careers. Pazo is a health sciences and Spanish studies double major and has led Rice all season in kills. She has posted 22 double doubles, including 16 in a row, while averaging 4.74 kills per game. Kuykendall is a biomolecular engineering major and the Owls' leading blocker with 1.25 blocks per game to go along with her 3.25 kpg.
All three Owls were also academic all-Western Athletic Conference honorees in 2004.
Rice returns to action next week, hosting the 2005 C-USA volleyball championship Nov. 17-20 at Autry Court.
