Owls Compete in Midland

MIDLAND, Texas -- A trio of Owls headed to Midland for the Midland Racquet Club Invitational this weekend.
Newcomer Alanna Rodgers lost a close battle to 64th ranked Laura Gordon of UCLA, 3-6, 6-4, 10-2 in the first round. She rallied in the consolation draw for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 victory to advance.
Dominique Karas and Christine Dao both won their first round matches before being eliminated in the second. Dao blanked SMU's Brooke Rambally 6-0, 6-0 but lost her upset bid against 33rd-ranked Jenny Kuhn of Tulane 6-2, 1-6, 10-4. Karas rallied from 5-0 down in the second to beat Texas A&M's Nicki Mechem 6-7 (5), 7-6 (7), 10-6.
In doubles action, Rodgers and Karas paired to Brooke and Halley Rambally 8-4 to advance.
Tournament action continues through Sunday.
