Waco - On the final day of action, the Rice Owls golf team shot a 290 score and improved its position by three places to finish ninth at the Baylor Invitational, which was held at Bear Ridge GC (7,233-yard, par-72). The Owls were led by sophomore Addison Awe's top 15 finish. Awe was two-under in the final round (70) and placed 12th at 219 (75-74-70). For the tournament, Rice shot 900 (307-303-290).
The Baylor gold squad won the event by four strokes over Lamar 862 to 866, while Baylor's Jeremy Alcorn was medalist at 211 (71-72-68).
Rice head coach Drew Scott was more pleased with his charges on Tuesday than he was the previous two rounds. "Overall, I was just pleased with the team's effort in the final round," says Scott. "We moved up three spots on the final day as Addison (Awe) shot a 70."
The Owls are next in action next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 17-18) at the Squire Creek Invitational in Ruston, La., and hosted by Louisiana Tech.
