HOUSTON ? The Rice men?s and women?s cross country teams will head south to Corpus Christi for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Splash, Friday at West Guth Park.

14 universities and over 2,000 high school and middle school runners from some of the premier teams in the state. Three university men?s teams ranked in the top-10 in the region will be in action, including fifth-ranked Rice. Stephen F. Austin and Houston are the other ranked teams, and the field will include the likes of St. Mary?s, Trinity, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Lutheran, Monterrey Tech, College of the Southwest (N.M), Texas A&M-International and Palo Alto Junior College.

The Rice men are led by senior Adam Davis and sophomore Stephen Magness. Davis helped Rice to the 2001 Western Athletic Conference cross country championship, while Magness was last year?s conference freshman of the year.

On the women?s side, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is the highest regionally ranked team, checking in at sixth. The Owls are one spot behind the Islanders in seventh and Stephen F. Austin is 12th. Kate Gorry is back to lead the Rice women. Gorry finished in the top-55 at last year?s NCAA meet, and was the 2002 WAC cross country freshman of the year.

The university women?s 3K race begins at 6:10 pm on Friday, followed by the men?s 5K race at 6:40. Complete information and results can be found on the Texas A&M-CC website at www.goislanders.com
