Clory Martin

This season fans will have a chance to get to know a little more about the members of the Rice soccer team in the feature Just For Kicks! Today's Owl is freshman forward Clory Martin.

Clory Martin may be a true freshman, but the standout from St. Stephen's Episcopal High School in Austin has made an immediate impact in the Western Athletic Conference. She currently ranks among the WAC's individual leaders in goals (6th), shots (8th) and points (8th).

Did you know? Martin is from an athletic family. Her older brother, Lawrence, played team handball at Army and her twin sister, Beth, plays soccer at Northwestern.

I chose to attend Rice because: I liked the name.

What's the best thing about playing college soccer: The pain, with the next best thing being scoring in overtime.

The best soccer advice I ever had: 'Clory, you're not as good as you think you are.' I cried, but it was the best thing ever.

The most embarrassing soccer moment or thing that ever happened to me: Does it have to be about soccer? My freshman year in high school I walked into a tree in front of all the cute senior guys.

Does your jersey number have any significance? I like the way it sounds. It looks like an angry number to me, and, no one else has it.

Coach Huston thinks I am:? Fast, and a good defender when I choose to be. Also, she thinks I am good when I take players to the outside. It's true, I just need to remember to do it.
