Soccer: Just For Kicks! Meet The Rice Soccer Team

This season fans will have a chance to get to know a little more about the members of the Rice soccer team in the feature Just For Kicks! Today's Owl is junior defender Erin Droeger.

Droeger is a California native in her third season with the Owl soccer program. The standout from Marina High School was named all-Western Athletic Conference and all-WAC Tournament last season. A model defender, Droeger is usually assigned to cover the opposing team's top scoring threat.

Did you know? Not only is Droeger one of the most respected players in the conference, she is an outstanding student who was nominated for the region's soccer all-academic team.

The nickname my teammates call me: Droeg

My favorite sport besides soccer: professional women's tennis

My favorite class at Rice: Social Psychology with Mikki Hebl

My favorite meal at the Rice servery: manicotti

My favorite snack: Coke

My favorite movie: Lonesome Dove

My favorite CD or music artist: Journey

My favorite Coach Huston saying: "You guys have the touch of a yak."

My pet peeve: let's just say people who don't exercise, but need to.

I chose to attend Rice because: of it's academic reputation and my hilarious teammates.

What I like most about the student life, or specifically life at Rice: I wouldn't know, I don't go out :)

What's the best thing about playing college soccer: the feeling of winning.

One soccer player I would like to meet: David Beckham (H-O-T)

One athlete (other than a soccer player) I would like to meet: Venus Williams

Other than soccer, the Rice team I like to watch play their sport: baseball team (one-and-a-third innings and counting).

The person who got me interested in soccer: my mom

The best soccer advice I ever had: don't back away from tackles, that's when you get hurt.

The most embarrassing soccer moment or thing that ever happened to me: accidently driving over two cement barriers in a parking lot with two of my teammates in the car -- I didn't see them.

Does your jersey number have any significance?: I am the first player to wear it after the late, great, Jessie Willis

I describe myself as: extremely competitive

My teammates think I am: intimidating

Coach Huston thinks I am: it depends on her mood.

Few people know this about me, but.....: I really am very nice.
