Women's Tennis: Rice Falls To Tulane, 6-1

The Green Wave opened the scoring by claiming two of three matches for the doubles point. Jeri Gonzales and Yasmin Fisher were downed by Julie Morris and Joyce Bergman at the number one position, 8-4, while Natalie Briaud and Annie Goodrich fell to Anna Monhartova and Anneli Axsater at number three, 8-6. Erin Waters and Judith Hagedorn were victorious over Lucy Wood and Olga Mikhailova at number two, 8-4.
In singles action, Monhartova downed Waters at number one, 6-3, 6-3, while Morris recovered after dropping the first set to cruise past Hagedorn, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0. Briaud lost to Bergman at number three, 6-3, 7-5, while Gonzales fell to Axsater, 6-3, 6-3. Goodrich also was defeated at number six by Mikhailova, 6-1, 6-1. Fisher was the only Owl to record a victory, but she needed three sets and two tiebreakers to claim the win. She outlasted Maiko Cook at number five, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 1-0 (10-8).
The Owls drop to 8-7 for the season and return to action when they host Western Athletic Conference rival Texas Christian Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
