Jackson swept his competition in four matches last week playing at the four, five and six singles positions. He opened the week with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Louisiana-Lafayette's Johann Westhizen at number five singles. He also teamed with sophomore Matthias Mathaes for a 9-7 win at number two doubles to help Rice secure the doubles point and aid in the Owls' 4-3 upset victory against the Ragin' Cajuns.
The native of Westminister, Calif., went on to secure a singles win in Rice's 6-1 upset over Arizona, then easily handled his Texas-Pan American opponent later that afternoon. Jackson also helped the Owls shut out North Carolina State 7-0 to wrap up the week's action.
The wins improve Jackson's dual-match record to 8-0 in singles and gives him a team-high 21 singles victories this year. This is his second time to be recognized by the WAC. Jackson was also named the league's men's tennis player of the month for October 1999.
The Owls have two weeks off before returning to competition against Virginia Tech on March 6 and San Diego on March 8, with both matches being played in California.
