Men's Tennis: Owls Sweep N.C. State

Freshman identical twins Richard and William Barker each won by identical scores of 6-2, 6-2. Richard downed Eric Jackson at the number one position, while William took care of Matt Lucas at number two.
Matthias Mathaes handed N.C. State's Mike Carducci a loss at number three, 6-1, 6-4, and Fabien Giraud fought past the Wolfpack's Reinaldo Valor at number four, 7-5, 7-5. At number five, Alexis Pourchet cruised past Bryce McGrory, 6-3, 6-2, while Cody Jackson held off Ryan Boward a number six, 6-2, 7-5.
The Owls earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. The Barkers downed Jackson and Valor at number one, 8-3, while Mathaes and Pourchet shut out Brad Kilgore and John Davis, 8-0. Vuk Rajevac and Giraud defeated Lucas and Boward at number three, 8-2.
Rice will have a long break before it returns to action. The Owls will play in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Doubles Championship March 2-4 in LaJolla, Calif., before returning to dual match play against Virginia Tech March 6 and the University of San Diego March 8. Both matches will be played in San Diego. Rice's match at Texas A&M on Tuesday has been rescheduled for a later date.
