Men's Golf: Owls Open Season at SMU Stonebridge Classic
9/17/2000 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
In addition to the recently hired interim head coach Clay Homan, the Owls will field three true freshmen in the two-day meet at the Stonebridge Country Club. Freshmen Ryan Morgan, Scott Philips and Winn Smith will join senior Frederik Dejaeghere and sophomore Bradley Lane as the top five to take their whacks at the par 72, 6,908-yard course.
"I think we are going to have to be patient," Homan said. "We have three freshmen that are going to make a few mistakes in their first meet. We just have to learn from (our mistakes) and not make them again in the future. The players we have, have the ability to post some great numbers it just might take a little bit of time."
After the shotgun start on Monday, the second round is slated to start at 1:30 pm and the final round will begin on Tuesday at 8 am.
The 16-team field consists of Arkansas-Little Rock, College of Charleston, Jackson State, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin State, Southern Methodist, Texas A&M, Texas-Arlington, Texas-San Antonio and Texas Tech.
