Both teams are the defending Western Athletic Conference champions and are the WAC coaches' preseason favorites to repeat. In the South Central Regional Coaches Cross Country Polls released this week, both teams were picked to finish in the top five in the region. The teams were scheduled to begin the season with the Rice Relays on Sept. 1, but the races were cancelled due to bad weather.
