Falaiye's leap exceeded her previous record by six and a half inches. Her record marks the 10th school record to fall this year in both indoor and outdoor women's track and field competition. In addition to the indoor and outdoor long jump, the Owls set new standards in the 800 meters and distance-medley relay for both indoor and outdoor. The outdoor 1500-meter run, sprint-medley relay and 4x1500-meter relay and the pentathlon also had new records set as Rice won both the indoor and outdoor Western Athletic Conference championships this past spring.
A freshman from Brampton, Ontario, Falaiye will next compete at the 2000 Canadian Track and Field Championships, August 11-13 in Victoria, British Columbia for the opportunity to represent Canada in the Olympics in September.
