Volleyball: 'Cats Tame Owls 3-0

Sophomore setter Mariel Davenport Pollock made her first start of the season for the Owls, and posted a career high 45 assists and added eight digs. Leading the hitting for Rice was senior Karolina Zelinka who knocked down 18 kills on 59 attempts with six errors (.203). Junior Leigh Leman posted a .270 hitting percentage behind 16 kills on 37 attempts and six errors. Leman also hit the court for 11 digs for her 12th double-double on the year.
Rice was outhit in every game, posting a final .154 hitting percentage compared to Southwest Texas' .298. Leading the Bobcats was senior Shenequa Bedford who helped stop the Owls with 21 kills on 40 attempts and four errors (.425). SWT won their 14th consecutive match and improves to 20-3.
The Owls move to 14-8 on the year after this non-conference matchup. Rice returns to conference play on Friday night at 7 p.m. when they look to even the season series with the Nevada Wolf Pack. #2 Hawaii visits Autry Court on Saturday at 7 p.m.
