Gandy, promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2019-20 season, has been a part of the greatest stretch in Rice women's basketball history. In his three seasons at Rice, the Owls have gone 72-22 and 42-8 in C-USA play.
The Owls have played in the postseason in three of the last four seasons, which includes the NCAA Tournament (2019), WNIT (2018), and WBI (champions in 2017). Rice was also set to be the automatic NCAA Tournament qualifier in 2020 before the postseason was canceled.
Rice women’s basketball coach Tina Langley announced the hiring of Gandy on May 19, 2017. Gandy spent the prior three years serving as the Coordinator of Player Development for the Washington Wizards.
Gandy joined the Wizards in 2014 and was responsible for player development and talent evaluation. Other responsibilities included video analysis, digital preparation of opponents, developing game plans and organizing and running pre-draft workouts. During Gandy’s tenure with the Wizards, he worked with the likes of four-time All-Star John Wall, growing superstar Bradley Beal, while advancing to the Eastern Conference Semis three times.
Prior to the Wizards, Gandy served as the Director of Recruiting Operations at the University of Maryland (2013-14) where he worked under current head coach Brenda Frese and Langley (associate head coach). In his one season at Maryland the Terrapins went 28-7 and advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
Gandy graduated from Maryland in 2013 with a degree in economics and volunteered as a scout team player for the Terrapins from 2009-2013.
