Rice enters new era with move to Nike
Houston-Rice Athletics entered a bold new era for its brand on Wednesday, July 1, as Nike officially became the department's official outfitter and Game One the official equipment supplier for all the Owls' uniform, apparel, and footwear needs.
"The anticipation for this moment has been building since we first announced our move to Nike last August, and today it's finally here," said Rice Vice President and Director of Athletics Tommy McClelland. "Nike is the gold standard in collegiate athletics, and outfitting our Owls in their apparel is more than a partnership — it's a reflection of the standard we hold ourselves to every day. Our fans and student-athletes are ready to Rep the R, and now they'll do it in the best gear in the game."
Rice student-athletes will immediately switch to their new apparel during their summer training programs, and new game uniforms will be revealed to the teams and then to the public in advance of the start of their respective seasons.
The switch in apparel companies is the first for Rice since 2012, when adidas took over as the athletic department's apparel and footwear provider.
Owls' fans can also Rep The R in official Nike gear, either online or by visiting the bookstore inside the Ley Student Center on campus during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
