Archibald Wins 100 Fly; Owls Move Into Third at NIC

OCALA, Fla. – Freshman Lily Archibald highlighted the evening with a championship in the 100-yard butterfly on day two of the CSCAA National Invitational Championship.
Archibald captured Rice's second event title of the week, touching the wall in 53.25. The Owls moved into third place in the team standings with 346.5 points, trailing Kentucky (348) and Ohio State (377.5).
Rice had four swimmers advance to championship finals and recorded top-10 finishes in both relays.
The Owls opened the evening with a seventh-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Abigail King, Siiri Einio, Archibald and Lizzie Zadel posted a time of 1:40.85.
In the first individual final of the night, Lily Cramer placed sixth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:17.48, while Ella Dyson finished seventh at 4:17.62.
Bella Zhang followed with a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke consolation final, touching in 1:02.51.
King later added a sixth-place finish in the 100 backstroke championship final with a time of 53.76.
Rice closed the evening with a fifth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay, as the team of Avery Karacz, Sami Johnson, Zhang and Ava Hamblett posted a time of 7:19.85.
The Owls will conclude the NIC on Saturday with prelims beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on the FAST YouTube channel.
