Volleyball Hosts Crosstown Foe Houston in Exhibition

HOUSTON — The Rice Volleyball team begins its 2025 schedule on Saturday when it welcomes crosstown foe Houston for a 6 p.m. first serve at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Owls return 10 letterwinners and four starters from last year's team that went 19-8 and finished second in the American Conference. Senior Lademi Ogunlana and sophomore Savannah Skopal earned American All-Conference honors.
The Owls have won three of the last four meetings against UH and six of the last seven. The teams last met in the regular season in 2022, a 3-0 sweep for Rice.
The Owls, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, were picked to finish first in the American. Ogunlana, Skopal, senior Taylor Preston and junior Cindy Tchouangwa are selected as American Preseason All-Conference.
Rice opens the regular season with the Rice Invitational I on Aug. 29 against No. 9 Texas A&M. It will face six teams in the AVCA's Top 25, while Northern Iowa is receiving votes. It will also face eight teams that earned berths to last year's NCAA Tournament.
