Portello and Archibald Sweep American Conference Weekly Swimming Honors

IRVING, Texas — Rice swimmers Ava Portello and Lily Archibald were recognized with American Conference weekly honors, the league announced Tuesday.
Portello, a sophomore, was named the Swimming Athlete of the Week, while Archibald, a freshman, earned Freshman Swimming Athlete of the Week following standout performances at the Seminole Fall Classic, where the Owls finished second.
Portello captured Rice's first win of the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:48.01. She added another victory in the 500 freestyle (4:50.08) and anchored the Owls' 200 medley relay, which placed third with a time of 1:42.16.
Archibald made a strong collegiate debut, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 53.65 seconds. She also placed second in both the 50 and 200 butterfly events and swam the leadoff leg in the 200 free relay.
The Rice swim and dive teams will return to action on Oct. 9 where they will host the Owl-A-Pooluza in Houston, Texas.
