IRVING – Rice junior Kaia Mateo was named the American Conference Setter of the Week, the league announced Monday.
It marks Mateo's fourth straight conference honor after earning three consecutive honorable mentions. She has been a key leader for the Owls, recording five double-doubles this season, four of which came in October.
Mateo totaled 45 assists and 18 digs in Rice's win over Tulane and led the conference in assists per set this week at 11.86. She also added five blocks.
Since stepping in as the starting setter in late September against Tulsa, Mateo has continued to pace the Owls' offense and contribute to the defense.
Rice will travel to North Carolina this week to face East Carolina and Charlotte. Both matches will stream on ESPN+.
