
Owls Dominate Day One of Rice Fall Splash

HOUSTON – The Rice swim and dive team leads after the opening day of the Rice Fall Splash on Friday.
The Owls sit in first place with 447 points, followed by Little Rock with 282 and Loyola New Orleans with 256.
Rice opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as Ava Hamblett, Reese Cole, Lily Archibald and Avery Karacz combined for a time of 3:46.11.
Ava Portella claimed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.87, while Hamblett finished second in 5:01.92. Hamblett later took first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.56), followed by Cole in second (2:03.75) and Ella Dyson in third (2:04.34).
The Owls dominated the 200-yard butterfly, sweeping the top four spots. Karacz won the event in 2:06.25, followed by Dyson (2:07.52), Zara Bolton (2:09.23) and Catherine Eland (2:10.71).
Cole added another victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.18), and Archibald took first in the 100-yard freestyle (51.06). The team of Archibald, Karacz, BellaZhang and Cole also placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:33.71.
In diving, Antonina Harned won the 3-meter event with a score of 315.83, and Morgan Robson finished second with 305.25.
