Lettenberger competed in the Paralympic Games for the second time in her career
HOUSTON - Rice swimming alumna Ahalya Lettenberger competed in her second Paralympic Games, this year traveling to Paris to represent Rice University and Team USA in the 100m Breaststroke and the 400m Freestyle.
In the 100m Breaststroke on Sunday, Lettenberger finished with a time of 1:47.72, placing sixth and finishing as the top American swimmer. In the 400m Freestyle, Lettenberger finished with a time of 5:23.73, coming in fifth and improving on her prelim time by .39 seconds.
"Swimming at Rice and being in the NCAA has prepared me so much," Lettenberger said when asked about how her experience in college helped her in Paris. "I just had such a fun time being in college and I grew so much, not only as a swimmer, but also as a person. I just think it prepared me to be the best I could be."
Previously, Lettenberger was a silver medalist in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, as well as a 2022 World Para Swimming Championships bronze medalist, and 2023 World Para Swimming Championships silver medalist. Aside from her athletic pursuits, Lettenberger has also earned several academic achievements, including being named a Marshall Scholar in 2023.
To everyone in her support system, including teammates and coaches, Lettenberger has a message to all of them:
"Thank you guys for all the support. I miss you guys a lot, and I'm just so thankful for the second family I have at Rice."
