Donations top $2 million for second consecutive year
Rice Athletics' inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference spurred a record-setting amount of individual donations to the Owl Club during fiscal 2023-24, surpassing $2 million for the second consecutive year.
A record 1,799 supporters of Rice Athletics donated $2,052,616 to support and enhance the experience of Rice student-athletes.
The cornerstones of the effort were the Rice Day of Giving, which brought in $276,000 over a 24-hour period, and the Night of Flight Celebration, which raised over $150,000 during a night of celebration and philanthropy in April.
In addition, the biannual Rice Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Dinner drew a record crowd who came together to honor the storied accomplishments of past student-athletes, coaches, and supporters of the program.
"This success highlights the profound influence our move to the American Athletics Conference has had on our fans," said Tommy McClelland, Rice Vice President and Director of Athletics. "Their confidence in our unwavering mission and our upward momentum is vital as we advance the athletics department forward."
"I knew that going into year two "The Barn" development team needed to maintain the momentum from year one by continuing to engage with our great alumni and supporters, Rice Senior Associate AD for Development Ryan Hall said. "Meeting various supporters and alums nationwide and understanding their affinity and passion for Rice University, particularly athletics, is a consistently rewarding experience. In the ever-changing landscape of college athletics, one of the things that remains constant is the amazing people that make Rice Athletics so special.
"On behalf of the team, we cannot thank everyone enough for a new record year surrounding the Owl Club. We will continue this momentum and have already started planning for a successful 24-25 fiscal school year, thanks to all of you. Rice Fight Never Dies!," Hall stated.
