Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll

HOUSTON — The Rice Owls volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) by receiving the Team Academic Honor Roll, representing the top 20% of GPAs nationally by division, the organization announced on Wednesday.
It is the first time since 2017, and just the second time ever, that the Owls have earned the honor.
Rice is one of four American Athletic Conference programs to earn the distinction, joining Charlotte, Memphis, and Wichita State.
In addition, Rice was recognized with the Team Academic Award for a 16th consecutive season and the 20th time in program history.
The Owls accumulated a 3.715 team GPA and were one of 381 programs that were recognized with the Team Academic Honor, as well as one of a record 1,426 programs that earned the Team Academic Award. Rice has achieved AVCA Team Academic recognition every year starting in 2008-09.
12 of 15 members of the team earned a spot on the 2023-24 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team this past year.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale of a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.
