Golf Duo Earns College Sports Communicators Academic All-District

HOUSTON — For the second straight year, Rice golfers Blake Benson and Jay Kirchdorfer were named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced.
Benson is a Business major with a 3.76 GPA. He had a 75.81 stroke average while recording three rounds of par or better. Benson had his best finish of the season when he tied for 33rd-place at the Bentwater Intercollegiate. He also tied a career-low when he fired a 69 in the final round of the Louisiana Classics.
Kirchdorfer had a 3.73 GPA while getting his MBA. He was fourth on the team with a 74.09 stroke average and led the team with 10 rounds of par or better, including three rounds in the 60's. Kirchdorfer finished -12 and runner-up at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational, where he set career lows for round (67), 36-hole score (135), and 54-hole score (204). His 36-hole score of 135 tied the school record, while the -12 and 54-hole score of 204 are both the second lowest in school history. He also tied for 12th at the Argent Financial .
