HOUSTON — Rice golf coach Justin Emil announced on Wednesday the addition of William Johnson (Kingston, Mass.) to a national letter of intent for the 2024-25 school year.
"I want to give a big Rice Owl welcome to Will Johnson and his family to Rice Golf," said Emil. "Will is an impressive young man, very mature and knows what he wants to achieve. We are lucky to have this high-achieving young man join us in the fall. I couldn't be more excited about the direction our program is headed. Recruiting excellent young student-athletes is a big part of our journey to AAC and NCAA Championships."
Johnson averaged 69.5 strokes per round in his junior events last year. In December, he won the American Junior Golf Association's Amundi Evian Showcase, firing a two-day score of -10 134, recording 13 birdies and an eagle in the tournament.
He's won eight events on the New England PGA Junior Tour, and in 2020, was named its Player of the Year after earning five Top 10 finishes, including a pair of runner-ups. He also won the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's World Golf Village Fall Junior Open last year while finishing runner-up at the Pennsylvania Spring Junior Open.
In his junior career, he averaged 73.7 strokes per round.
Johnson joins Daniel Zou (The Woodlands, Texas) in the 2024-25 class.
