Volleyball's Lola Foord Earns Wagoner Scholarship

HOUSTON, Texas — Rice volleyball junior Lola Foord has been selected as an awardee for the Spring 2024 Wagoner Foreign Study Scholarship.
The Wagoner Scholarship is named for James T. Wagoner '29. His love of travel spurred him to establish this scholarship for students and alumni in memory of his parents and late wife. The Center for Civic Leadership grants the awards to students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and promise in their research.
In her research project, Foord will study the effects of modularity and integration on the evolution of complex morphological structures. Foord hopes to study populations of several fish species off the coast of Japan, comparing differences in head and beak structures between isolated groups to better understand how function affects the evolution of complex traits.
