Ava Portello Named AAC Freshman Swimming Athlete of the Week

Portello earns the first weekly conference honor of her career
Rice freshman Ava Portello earned two individual top finishes and was part of a relay team that finished in first place to earn three victories and lead the Owls past Tulane in a home meet on Nov. 1. In her first event of the day, Portello finished just under three seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the 200 yard Freestyle with a final time of 1:49.28. In her second event of the day, Portello just edged out Tulane's swimmer to finish the 100 Yard Freestyle with a top time of 51.16. Finally, Portello was the second swimmer in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay team who finished in first place with a final time of 7:31.97.
Rice will be back in action on Friday and Saturday of this week, taking on North Texas and SMU on the road.
