HOUSTON — Rice men's golf coach Justin Emil announced on Wednesday the addition of Raines Watson (College Station, Texas) to a grant in aid for the 2025-26 school year.
"We are excited to welcome Raines Watson to the Rice Golf family," said Emil. "Raines is an excellent student, teammate, and player. More importantly, he is a young man of impeccable character. His golf game is trending nicely and he'll make an immediate impact on the competitiveness of our team."
Watson averaged 73.23 strokes per round in his junior events. Last year, he won the District 21-5A title and finished fourth at the regional tournament to earn a spot in the Texas State Championship.
He had runner-up finishes at the Legends Junior Tour (LJT) Winter Classic, carding 71-69 to finish -4, as well as at the Greenwood Cup. He also finished second at the Southern Texas PGA's Antigua Bluebonnet Classic. At the Taylor Gooch Foundation Junior Championship, he fired a second round 67, leading to a third-place finish.
