Hayon, Portello Earn Weekly AAC Swimming Honors

IRVING, Texas - Rice swimmers Arielle Hayon and Ava Portello have been named the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week and Freshman Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Swimmer of the Week
Arielle Hayon
Hayon earned two victories on Saturday against SMU, including posting a conference-leading time in the 200 Fly, posting a final time of 2:00.44. She also won the 100 Fly later in the meet, where she posted a final time of 53.79. Hayon earns the second AAC Swimmer of the Week honor of her career and her first of the 2024-25 season, as well as the first Swimmer of the Week honor of the season for Rice.
Freshman Swimmer of the Week
Ava Portello
Portello earned two individual victories this week, both coming against SMU. In the 200 Free, where she notched a conference-leading time of 1:46.95. In her second victory of the weekend, she clocked in at 4:49.46 in the 500 Free, setting her second conference-leading time in the meet. Portello earns her second Freshman Swimmer of the Week honor with this week's award.
Rice swimming and diving will return to action next week on Nov. 20 as they take part in the Phill Hansel Invitational at the University of Houston CRWC Natatorium.

Hayon earns the second AAC Swimmer of the Week honor of her career and her first of the 2024-25 season, as well as the first Swimmer of the Week honor of the season for Rice.
