Swim and Dive Emerges Victorious on Senior Day

HOUSTON - The Rice Owls swim and dive team came out with a 145-98 victory over the Tulane Green Wave on Senior Day at the Rice Competition Pool on Friday afternoon.
"Double wins by Ava Portello, Amelia Kane and Megan Phillip really paved the way for our victory tonight," said head coach Seth Huston on his team's performance. "We had a lot of contributors to the overall score, and I feel like it was a great way to honor our seniors."
The 400 Medley Relay team of Neta Ussishkin, Megan Schultze, Catherine Eland, and Lily Cramer notched the first victory of the day with a time of 3:55.60, with a second team of Owls in Katherine Sammy, Morgan Bartley, Sydney Morgan, and Logan Betkey finishing just behind them at 4:00.68 to take the top two spots in the first event.
Amelia Kane and Ella Dyson followed that up similarly in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, with Kane finishing first at 10:07.49, followed by Dyson at 10:09.24.
Ava Portello won her first event of the meet in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:49.28, then took her second victory later in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 51.16.
Megan Phillip took the top score in the one meter dive with a score of 268.73, with Rylee Coyne scoring 216.53 in that event.
Rice posted another victory in the 200 Yard Butterfly thanks to Arielle Hayon's top time of 2:00.18, followed by Ava Hamblett's final time of 2:00.37 in the 200 Yard Backstroke to post another Owls victory.
To cap off the day, Rice posted a final first place finish, this time in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, with Hayon, Portello, Dyson, and Kane finishing with a time of 7:31.97.
Rice collected victories in 10 of the 13 events on the day.

Rice will hit the road next week for two meets, taking on North Texas in Denton on Friday, November 8, before heading to Dallas to take on SMU on Saturday, November 9.
