IRVING – The Rice soccer team continued to collect weekly honors, with Catarina Albuquerque being named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Leah Chancey was named AAC Honorable Mention, the league announced Monday afternoon.
"Cat and Leah were all action on Sunday and set the tone for our team everyday with their professionalism and leadership," said Rice head coach Brian Lee.
Albuquerque netted the game-winning goal in Rice's 2-1 win over North Texas yesterday, scoring a header off a corner kick while playing as a center back. She helped guide the defense to only surrender one goal en route to the win.
Albuquerque scored her second goal of the season (both game-winning goals) and seventh goal of her career. She has six points on the season with two goals and two assists.
Chancey receives her fifth conference honor of the season, contributing on both of Rice's goals in a 2-1 win over North Texas. Although her eight-match score streak came to an end, Chancey's free kick and corner kick led to immediate goals, recording two assists in game.
Chancey currently leads the AAC in goals (9), points (22), game-winning goals (4), goals per game (0.64) and shots on goal per game (1.57). Her nine goals also ranked 23rd and 22 points ranks 26th in the NCAA.
The Owls have now earned 13 weekly AAC honors on the season.
