Rice Swimmers Show Out at TYR Pro Series in Knoxville

In Brief: Rice was represented by seven swimmers at the TYR Pro Swim Series event in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Wednesday through Saturday, Jan. 10-13. Sophomore Ella Dyson led the way with a pair of top-10 finishes, as junior Amelia Kane reached the finals of both the 400 freestyle and 400 individual medley. Junior Arielle Hayon also advanced to the finals of the 100 butterfly.
In Detail: Dyson posted the highwater mark of the week in the 800-meter freestyle, placing sixth with a time of 8:49.29. Dyson also finished seventh in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a time of 16:54.38 and 14th in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:18.90. Kane also reached the finals of the 400 to place 22nd with a time of 4:22.75 and placed 14th in the 800 with a time of 9:04.70. Kane reached the finals of the 400 IM to finish 16th with a time of 5:00.64. Hayon was Rice's final swimmer to reach the finals of an event, placing 13th in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:00.49. Hayon also finished 55th in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 27.10. Senior Imogen Meers competed in five separate events, earning a high finish of 28th in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:20.58. Meers also placed 35th in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:04.56, 48th in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 26.98, 65th in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 58.53, and 32nd in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:23.35. Graduate senior Shannon Campbell earned finishes of 26th in the 400-meter freestyle (4:25.64), 19th in the 800-meter freestyle (9:10.40) and 12th in the 1,500-meter freestyle (17:13.94). Sophomore Mia Nagle competed in both the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststrokes, placing 41st and 37th, respectively, with times of 1:14.03 and 2:43.21. Graduate swimmer Ahalya Lettenberger also swam in five events during the week, competing in the 200-meter freestyle (2:40.71), 400-meter freestyle (5:29.18), 100-meter breaststroke (1:47.27), 200-meter individual medley (3:08.48) and 400-meter individual medley (6:38.87).
Up Next: Rice swimming returns to the pool next weekend at the SMU Duals in Dallas, Texas. The Owls will face off in simultaneous dual meets against SMU, North Texas and Tulane.
