
Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

HOUSTON — The Rice Owls volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) by receiving the Team Academic Award for a 15th consecutive season and the 19th time in program history, the organization announced on Thursday.
The Owls accumulated a 3.46 team GPA and were one of a record 1,332 programs that were recognized. Rice has achieved AVCA Team Academic recognition every year starting in 2008-09.
14 of 15 members of the team earned a spot on the 2022-23 Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll this past year with Carly Graham earning C-USA Volleyball's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale of a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.
